Not much is known about his educational qualification as he was always more interested in pursuing his hockey dreams than paying attention to what the teacher was teaching inside the classroom. He got admission in local schools, but could not join college as by then, he became a permanent member of the Indian National Hockey team.

He is not only an impressive hockey player, but was the captain of the Indian national hockey team for several years. It was in 2003 that he finally secceeded in cementing his place in the national team. In the very next year, 2004, he received the opportunity to play for the country in Kuala Lampur. He showed his skills on the field, and Indian team was able to lift the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup that year. Due to this game and leadership qualities, he was able to become the captain of national hockey team in 2009. He specializes in drag-flicking. He boasts of a speed of 145 km/hr. The Haryana government offered him a place in Haryana state police force for his contributions in the world of hockey. He is currently a DSP in the Haryana Police Force.

Even an indomitable payer like Sandeep Singh has to face very dark times, when he was forced to take a break from playing hockey. The unfortunate event took place on 21st August, 2006. He was traveling by Shatabadi Express to meet with the other members of national hockey team. The entire team was scheduled to leave for World Cup that was organized in Germany. But all his dreams were shattered when a rogue bullet hit and injured him severely. Due to this unfortunate incident he has to spend a lot of time in wheelchair. According to the medical specialists, it was impossible for him to leave the wheelchair anytime soon. But his rehab sessions proved effective and he came back on the field within two years. The bullet not only damaged his lower ribs, but also affected his kidney and liver. With sheer determination and hard work he was able to get an upper hand on his physical condition. Within a span of two years, he recovered completely, and reclaimed his position in the national hockey team again.

Recently, an announcement has been made that the story of Sandeep Singh’s life will be depicted on the silver screen in the form of a full-length feature film. The name of the movie is “Soorma.” This film will mark the production debut of Chindragada Singh. The movie will be directed by Shaad Ali, and will be released in Punjabi and Hinid languages simultaneously. Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy has been roped in to compose the heart-touching music for the movie. Diljit Dosanjh will portray the character of Sandeep Singh while Taapsee Pannu will play his love interest. Angad Bedi will also play a vital role in this movie. It will hit the screens on 13th July 2018.
