Personal Life & Education

Vijay was born on 26th January 1991 in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. He was a fond of cricket since childhood. Both his father and brother play cricket in different level. It wasn’t really surprising for him to grow interest in cricket since young age.

He is 27 years old, unmarried all rounder cricketer who is playing for Indian Cricket Team currently. Vijay has done probably done is education from Tamil Nadu. However not many information is ut about his educational track.

Family Information

Vijay Shankar comes from a South-Indian family, based in Chennai. He belongs to an upper middle class family. Vijay’s father namely Mr. H. Shankar used to play Club Crickets. Vijay’s elder brother is also a cricketer plays for league cricket.

Vijay’s father, looking at his sons’ interest in cricket, built up net-practice facilities for his sons at their home in Chennai. Vijay and his brother didn’t have to run far away from home for daily basis practice. They can easily do that on their terrace. Yogarj Singh, father of Yuvraj Singh, did the same in their Punjab House.


  • Batting: The man, Vijay is an all-rounder player. He is a right handed batsman. Usually he bats in the middle order for domestic as well as IPL teams he has played in till now.
  • Bowling: Along with batting, he is a pace bowler as well. Vijay is a right arm medium pace bowler who used to be off-spin bowler at young age. Until he is 20 years old, he used to be a spinner. After than he changed his style to medium pacer.

Debut Match

  • Vijay Shankar did his first debut in the year 2012 when he played for Tamil Nadu for the first time at state level. In the month of February he first appeared on ground against Andhra Pradesh in Bangalore in the year 2012. This was his debut for List A matches.
  • During December 1st to 4th in 2012, he played against Vidarbha Team in Nagpur, Maharashtra. This was his First Class Debut at state level. He scored 63* in that match.
  • Vijay’s T20 debut was in 2018 when he played for Team India in Nidahas Trophy in Colombo against Sri Lanka. On 6th March 2018, he played his first match representing team India.

Career Status

  • Domestic Cricket: Vijay started his domestic cricket career in the year 2012, as said before. He played for Tamil Nadu for last 6 years. He played Ranji Trophy in the year 2014-15 as well representing Tamil Nadu. He scored 111 and then 91 for quarter final and semi-finals in Ranji Trophy respectively. For this he has bagged two ‘Man of the Match’ trophies as well.
  • Indian Premier League: In the year 2014, he started playing in Indian Premier League. He played his first match for Chennai Super-Kings in 2014. After that he joined Sunrisers Hyderabad and played 4 matches for the team until 2017. In 2018, he was bought by Delhi Daredevils in IPL Auction.
  • International Cricket: He was declared to be the replacement of Bhuvaneshwar Kumar for a Test Series back in November 2017. However Vijay didn’t play in that series. Recently he has been chosen for the Nidahas Trophy in Colombo where he has played his first international match against Sri Lanka in March 2018.


  • Debut: When Vijay played for the first time in Nagpur for Tamil Nadu, he scored 63 not out for the team. Alongside he has taken two important wickets in the same match.
  • Ranji Match (2014-15) Quarter Final: In quarter finals Vijay scored 111 in first innings and 82 in second innings respectively against Vidarbha. Tamil Nadu qualified to the Semi-Finals despite the match being drawn as the team was leading in first innings. He bagged Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.
  • Semi Finals (2014-15) Ranji Trophy: Vijay played in the semi finals and scored 91 runs in the match. He again bagged the Man of the Match award for his performance in Semi Finals for Tamil Nadu.
  • Finals (2014-15) Ranji Trophy: The semi final match against Maharashtra was drawn as well. However Tamil Nadu reached to the Finals due to lead in first innings. In the Finals, against Karnataka, Vijay scored 5 in first innings and 103 runs in second innings.

IPL 2018

As mentioned Vijay joined IPL in the year 2014 for the team Chennai Super Kings, he only played for one match against Rajasthan Royals. He bowled 1 over in that match and did not bat. In 2017 Vijay played 4 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL match. In 2018, he will be playing for Delhi.

Vijay has joined the Team India; however his name isn’t listed in India 11. Hope to see him soon playing for India.
